Software License Agreementīy downloading, installing, or using this software, you agree to be bound by the terms and conditions of the following license agreement. If the software upload fails, and subsequent upload attempts prove unsuccessful, the unit may need to be returned to Garmin for service. If this software is uploaded to a GPS unit other than the product it is designed for, it will render the unit inoperative. This software should only be uploaded to the unit for which it is intended. These upgrades are specific to the specific GPS units and software versions listed. gpx, the 660 will process anything in the correct format in that folder, (presumably, *.gpx), regardless of it's filename (in fact, from memory, if it's a gpx file on an SD card, it will process it in the root of the card, as well as in a Garmin folder.)Īs I don't have any pressing need to get an XT yet, am happy to help with this (as I know it would bug the hell out of me as it is), if it means I could switch over knowing there is a solution/workaround when I do.This download area offers free firmware upgrades for select Garmin® units. You can also rename the Temp.gpx file to. line when creating the gpx file for transmission to the XT? I guess that would be possible to test by taking a test gpx file created in MapSource with a single WayPoint in it, importing it into Basecamp and then sending that to the XT, and see what goes into the gpx file on the XT.ĭoes Basecamp write a Temp.gpx file in the Garmin folder for the XT, like it does for the 660, which then gets processed when the unit is disconnected from the PC? I have used this method for sharing routes with friends on other units, I just put the Temp.gpx file that got created on my unit after a MapSource "upload", copied onto an SD card and put that in their unit to import. I wonder if Basecamp just doesn't include (or removes) the. I can of course also provide examples of MapSource generated gpx files for comparison, if need be.

I don't create WayPoints very often, so a manual workaround wouldn't be too onerous if that would be the only way to do this without Explore (which I don't *think* I like the sound of.)Ĭlick to expand. Thanks for the updates chaps! a Restaurant symbol in my MapSource gpx file has just one line per WayPoint: Restaurant I have had a look a some gpx files that I have saved, from just saving my current Favourites/WayPoints with MapSource, and it seems like a single line in the xml which references the "standard" set of Garmin icons possible for a WayPoint, which the XT *can* support, so I was wondering why it doesn't (via Basecamp), and if it would be possible to edit the current.gpx (or a gpx uploaded to the unit like you do when adding Waypoints/Routes), to "fix" this issue?Į.g. Would it please be possible to summarise these points in one post, so the benefits/downsides of enabling Explore vs not enabling, are possible to assess? (I'm still on the fence about moving from my 660 to the XT, though am fairly certain it's a case of when, not if, but the above sounds like a very annoying "feature", that there is no actual technical reason for the limitation?) On the other hand, many people say not to touch Garmin Explore with a barge pole and it removes functionality that is important to people? I read that to get round this you have to upload the WayPoints/Routes to the Garmin Explore Website/"Web App" first and then sync them to the unit and this enables them in the unit, along with them also being viewable on the map, regardless of if you are in routing mode, and they are in the current route? Did I get all of that correct?

Do "Favourites" (WayPoints) created in Basecamp still only show as a "green heart" on the XT once transferred, or do the "proper" icons now show?
